Foundation Programme Class
The Foundation Programme offers a structured approach to learning Buddhist meditation through the study of a particular book. Through in-depth study and practice, it helps us close the gap between the inspiring teachings we hear at the Centre and practising them in our daily life. We learn how to integrate all the meditation practices and wisdom advice from Buddha into our normal daily life. In this way we gradually find a deep inner peace and happiness in our lives.
Join us on the Foundation Programme as we study Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s text The New Eight Steps to Happiness.
This book offers practical instructions showing how to transform even the most difficult daily life experiences into opportunities for spiritual growth through developing and enhancing minds of universal love and compassion. By studying this text we learn how to recognise and abandon states of mind that harm us, and to replace them with peaceful and beneficial ones.

CLASS FORMAT
Prior to each class, students study an assigned portion of the text, usually a few pages, and memorise the essential points. The class begins with chanted prayers and a guided meditation. The teacher reads the assigned section from the book while giving commentary to the text. The students then divide into pairs to discuss the material. The teacher and students conclude by deciding what to meditate on in the next class and how to practice during the coming week, followed by dedication prayers.
