Foundation Study Programme

Take your practice deeper

The Foundation Programme offers a structured approach to learning Buddhist meditation through the study of a particular book. Through in-depth study and practice, it helps us close the gap between the inspiring teachings we hear at the Centre and practising them in our daily life. We learn how to integrate all the meditation practices and wisdom advice from Buddha into our normal daily life. In this way we gradually find a deep inner peace and happiness in our lives.

By studying on this programme we shall gain great confidence in meditation—from simple Buddhist techniques for developing inner peace, to the profound insights which lead to lasting wisdom and joy.

At Kadampa Meditation Centre Lancaster our Foundation Programmes runs on Wednesday evenings.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
“By relying on the Three Study Programmes (General Programme, Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme) we can gradually increase our wisdom until it is completely mature, like a full moon. With this kind of wisdom we will have a firm, stable confidence when teaching Dharma to others.”
— Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Foundation Program

Join us on the Foundation Programme as we study Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s extraordinary text The New Eight Steps To Happiness.

Based on the famous Eight Verses of Training the Mind by the great Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa, this inspiring book reveals essential methods for transforming all life’s difficulties into valuable spiritual insights and for developing universal love and compassion, the source of true happiness for both self and others.

About the Foundation Programme

Joining Foundation Programme (FP) involves studying the entire book and trying to attend all classes, one of which is a written offering of our study. Each class consists of prayers, guided meditation and teaching. Foundation Programme classes give an opportunity to study in a systematic way, to discuss in a focused manner, and be guided in prayer and meditation practices. Authentic spiritual friendships evolve through connection with the Buddhist community on a weekly basis.

Fee: To join the Foundation programme you will need to become a Gold Member which costs £30 per month and entitles you to attend all classes and courses, except empowerments, at Lancaster Kadampa Meditation Centre for free.
