Foundation Study Programme

Take your practice deeper

The Foundation Programme offers a structured approach to learning Buddhist meditation through the study of a particular book. Through in-depth study and practice, it helps us close the gap between the inspiring teachings we hear at the Centre and practising them in our daily life. We learn how to integrate all the meditation practices and wisdom advice from Buddha into our normal daily life. In this way we gradually find a deep inner peace and happiness in our lives.

By studying on this programme we shall gain great confidence in meditation—from simple Buddhist techniques for developing inner peace, to the profound insights which lead to lasting wisdom and joy.

At Kadampa Meditation Centre Lancaster our Foundation Programmes runs on Thursday evenings.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
“By relying on the Three Study Programmes (General Programme, Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme) we can gradually increase our wisdom until it is completely mature, like a full moon. With this kind of wisdom we will have a firm, stable confidence when teaching Dharma to others.”
— Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Foundation Program

Join us on the Foundation Programme as we study Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s extraordinary text The New Heart of Wisdom.

This extraordinary book reveals the direct and hidden meanings of Buddha’s Perfection of Wisdom Sutras in a way that we can apply them to our modern life.

As soon as we start reading, we feel as if we are transported back to 567 BC listening to Buddha himself as he delivers the Sutra on Massed Vultures Mountain.  Then reading Venerable Geshe-la’s commentary to the Sutra we are brought immediately to the present day and see clearly how the profound meaning of this Sutra can be applied to solving the problems of modern life and to transforming our daily life into the path to liberation and enlightenment.

And when we read in the appendices how to apply the meaning of the Sutra to Tantric practice and experience the union of profundity and clarity, we see how it is possible to complete this journey swiftly through practising the union of Sutra and Tantra.  What could be more precious?
